Competitions 2019
This year’s competitions have started well. It has been pleasing to note that both mens and ladies competitions have continued to see increases in numbers. The day events, the Mixed Triples and Mixed Pairs, continue to be popular.
The vast majority of early matches have been completed on schedule. The competition secretaries are normally prepared to allow short extensions when a need arises, but they need to be kept informed. Players are reminded that matches should be played in proper grey or white dress and that markers also need to be properly attired. Also, when there are a number of matches in the same session, could efforts be made to ensure that the draw for rinks is fairly witnessed by as many of the participants as possible. In general, we are very happy with the way matches are completed.
By early June first rounds are now completed. In the ladies competitions two newer members Lynne Pavitt and Marion Sutton have gone through in the first round of Yard of the Jack. Marion and Patsy Burrows are through in the Handicap and Lynne and Jenny Miles in the Alma Lodge. Some familiar names have started well including Linda M, Maggie,Jo, Liz, Ann M, Carol, Val, Joy and Jill.
Joyce Hadfield played against Marion Sutton yesterday afternoon and had a draw. They played another end and Joyce won by one point. So well done Marion who is a comparatively new player and well done our Joyce, you are amazing and an inspiration to us all.
It is early days in the mens competitions, in the championship the standout result was a win for Bob Brinning, and Brian McRitchie reversed last year’s final result in his match. In Yard of the Jack there were good wins for Garth, Ray and Dave Medley. Harvey did well to get through in the Handicap. In other competitions some newer members have gone through including Mike Neale Paul Hills, Ken Blakemore and Colin Agnew

Maintenance Day
Tuesday morning you will find is free of bowlers while our Green’s Team work on maintaining our rinks and the surrounding gardens and grounds. This team work very hard every week and we are most grateful to them. Over these last few seasons our greens have played better and better and it’s only down to the hard work these men and women put in, that make our greens a joy to play on.
